Jim originally trained as a geologist, then undertook a PhD in applied geochemistry (iron-bentonite interactions, University of Bristol, UK). He has 20 years' experience of geochemical modelling of mineral-fluid-gas interactions (e.g. iron-bentonite interactions, cement degradation processes, cement-clay interactions) and radionuclide behaviour, especially in relation to radioactive waste storage/disposal. He has published widely on these topics (see publications) and has acted as a reviewer for several international scientific journals.
Jim has also spent the last 14 years assessing human health impacts from chemical contaminants in the environment and has a particular interest in the production and application of toxicological data and exposure modelling. This interest was developed during Jim’s time working in public health (now Public Health England) as an environmental scientist.
Jim has worked for several clients in the UK and overseas. A full CV is available on request. In his spare time, Jim teaches guitar and is an NHS volunteer.
